ALA Book Project

American Lawyers Alliance Book Project

Giving Back to the Community

Purpose
Our Book Project is intended to expand awareness of the ALA. and to develop relationships within the community where the ALA meetings are held, as well as publicize our organization.

Process

We will collect from membership NEW children’s books and then donate the books to a worthwhile cause/agency in the host city and:
  • Notify all ALA members/board members by email and explain the project and invite them to bring a NEW children’s book to our meeting. If the member is not coming perhaps they might send the book with someone who is coming or mail a book to a designated ALA representative.
  • A project/ agency from the host city would be chosen to receive the books.
  • The donated books would be age appropriate for those served by the agency.
  • The recipient must agree to the following;
  1. Send an agent to pick up the books during our meeting.
  2. Allow an ALA representative to take pictures of the presentation of the books.
  3. Allow the ALA to use these pictures in the ALA newsletter, on the ALA website, on Facebook, and in other ALA press releases.
  4. Include pictures of the presentation and an article describing the donation and the ALA, our purpose, projects, etc., in their newsletters and publicity.

2024 ALA Book Drive/Donations

This year we are delighted to support a beloved Louisville institution - Dolly Parton's Imagination Library!  Maria Gurren, the Executive Director will give  a presentation to us on Friday morning around 10 a.m.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Louisville was founded in 2016 through a partnership between the Junior League of Louisville, WAVE 3 News and the Jefferson County Public Education Foundation.

In its first year, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Louisville served 500 children in three of the county’s zip codes. Since then, Imagination Library of Louisville has grown tremendously while the mission stays the same.

The mission of Imagination Library of Louisville is to provide a free monthly book to Louisville children from birth to age five to foster a love of reading and prepare children for kindergarten. We believe that by improving early education in our community, we can contribute to the lifelong success of Jefferson County kids.

This year, in lieu of actual books, we are asking members to make a small (or large) tax-deductible donation that will be used to purchase books for these children.

February 3, 2023 - Book Drive

This year's worthy New Orleans organization - North Rampart Community Center, is an amazing organization located on the border between the French Quarter ("Vieux Carre") and the community of Treme in the historic section of old New Orleans. The center was established in 1909 by the Women’s Society of Christian Services, Board of Missions, Methodist Church, as part of a nationwide movement to establish community centers in high poverty areas around the country.  Also providing Christian education to the children of an expanding immigrant population within New Orleans. The mission expanded to primarily address the material, educational, and spiritual needs of the women and children.
